Women's power in selecting colours
Women's power in selecting colours
Professional refinishing is a job for professionals. When aiming for top results, the first steps must be executed carefully – first and foremost finding the right colour shade. And some people have physical advantages...
A good eye is needed when it comes to matching colour samples with the original colour tone. And it may surprise man people that women are often superior in this regard. Researchers have found in a variety of experiments that women can perceive finer differences in colour
than men. The cause can probably be found in the male hormone testosterone, which influences nerve development during the embryonic phase. On the other hand, men excel at recognising details better and faster. Some researchers trace this back to the Stone Age, when it was mainly men who hunted and faster and sharper perception meant survival advantages. There is another interesting gender-specific phenomenon: about 12 % of all women are so-called tetrachromats. Tetrachromasia refers to a special property of the eye.
The retina of the human eye consists of different cells: rods and cones. The rods are responsible for light-dark vision, the cones for colour vision. Most people have three types of cones, one for red light, one for blue light and one for green light. The brain forms the colour information from the signals sent by these cells. Thus, as a trichromat, humans are able to see almost a million colours. Tetrachromats, on the other hand, have a fourth type of cone. The sensitivity of the fourth cone is usually between the red and green receptors – it responds to yellow and orange tones. The fourth cone opens up an expanded sensory colour space and thus a wider visible spectrum: tetrachromats see almost a hundred times more colours than other people.
Tetrachromats are found mainly in the animal kingdom – many fish, amphibians, reptiles and birds are assigned to this category. Human tetrachromats are usually female. This is because the genes for the formation of the visual pigments are located on the X chromosome. Since women have two X chromosomes, they can form another colour receptor. Oh well. So much for the so-called stronger sex. But practical experience has shown that with the right equipment and a little care, trichromats also achieve excellent results. Incidentally, a high-quality daylight solution that makes it possible to detect the finest colour deviations at all is indispensable here: the SATA trueSun.
How the SATA trueSun pays off
The daylight solution helps to find the right color tone – and to avoid incorrect painting. In short: it pays off.
SATA TrueSun
The SATA trueSun daylight solution has a wide colour spectrum and reproduces colour tones true to original.
